Product Review of Thomas Hearty Grains English Muffins
Thomas Hearty Grains English Muffins come packaged in a plastic wrap bag over a paperboard carton. On the outside of the bag, there are red hearts over an orange block. According to the label, the product is now with no high fructose corn syrup.
Immediately next to that is their signature Coach and Nooks and Crannies logo consisting of a wagon with passengers led by horses. A red heart indicates this product is made with whole grain. Situated in the upper right corner is an imprinted admonition to eat 48 grams or more of whole grain daily. There are 6 muffins in the pack.
As you remove the plastic your eyes are drawn to the carton. To the left in large letters are the words Hearty Grains. Net weight is 12 ounces or 340 grams. The middle portion again displays the wagon icon. To the right is an enlarged picture of an open English muffin with several pieces of fruit on top.
Underneath white writing over a green background are the words 100% whole wheat. This same image is duplicated on 3 of the 4 sides of the box. On the 4th side is a quote by S.B. Thomas says, “Enjoy 100% Thomas’ taste as well as 100% whole wheat nutrition”.
The bottom of the box is where you will find the nutrition facts listed for these muffins. Serving size is the equivalent of 1 muffin. There are 6 servings per container. The calorie count is 120 and 10 of those come from fat. These muffins have 6% calcium, 8% iron, 9% sodium and dietary fiber at 12%.
Some of the included ingredients are whole wheat flour, yeast, wheat gluten, farina, and soy flour. A rather appealing looking turkey sandwich recipe is located near the far right side.

As I opened the package I noticed they were light brown in color. They were not thin in content. These muffins toast very well which really show the prevalence and prominence of the whole wheat grains. I spread my muffins with margarine and grape jelly. As I placed it in my mouth to eat, I was not really pleased with the overall taste. It was very bland and somewhat airy. The muffin’s texture was not pleasant to my palate. Even though they were reasonably priced, this product is not one that I will purchase again.
